TThe MFA continues to have only virtual monthly meetings which are normally the fourth Tuesday of each month.  These are being supplemented by several “Field Trip” events during the year.  Normally the field trips will be on a Saturday morning to see a department’s apparatus and their stations.  We will then plan to have lunch together.  Remember, the monthly meetings of the MFA will be conducted “virtually”.

The access code and directions will soon be provided via separate e-mail. We encourage you to load the link and try it. If your computer has a camera when you open the link, you should see yourself. Play with it as you are not connected to anything. Doing this will get you used to the system. Once you do this you will be all set to attend.

Thanks to Elliott Fried and the IFBA folks, we had a successful 2-hour meeting with video and phone access. We are resuming having a speaker.

The guest speaker for October will be Wayne Miller, a retired Special Agent, Criminal Investigator, and Certified Fire Investigator for the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Boston.

Mr. Miller served for 25 years with the ATF, where he was involved in numerous high-profile illegal firearms, bombing, and arson cases. As a member of the ATF National Response Team, he responded to several major fire and explosion incidents. Throughout his public and 18-year private career, he has examined over 2,300 fire and explosion scenes in 43 states and provided expert testimony in various federal and state courts. He also has 3,000 hours of training in fire science and investigation and has studied over 100 training fires.

Since 1984, Mr. Miller has been a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators, holding numerous positions within the MA Chapter of the IAAI. He has also taught fire investigation as an adjunct professor at Cape Cod Community College and has spoken on fire-related topics over 80 times across the United States and Canada.
