The MFA Shift Calendar
To our many customers over the years-
The Metropolitan Fire Association Board of Directors has decided to discontinue publishing the annual Apparatus Calendar. This decision was prompted by several factors, including the passage of time after thirty-eight years.
It has been increasingly difficult to obtain suitable cover photos with fire action, and fewer photographers are willing or able to visit the departments to photograph the apparatus candidates.
Steadily increasing costs for paper, printing and postage combined with decreasing sales are factors, as many young firefighters do not want or need a paper calendar. They rely on an app on their smartphones.
Our original sales method was for MFA members to visit each station and shift in numerous departments. Over the years we have lost numerous members who were active salesmen, and there have been fewer and fewer salesmen to cover as much territory as possible. Visits to some departments were dropped. We now do not have sufficient salesmen to continue.
We want to thank the Fire Departments, Firefighters and other calendar customers who have supported the MFA over the years. Special thanks to John Spink, now retired from the AJC, who shared his fire scene photos for many covers and Dave Organ, who took the apparatus photos for many years. We appreciate the other members who provided their photos. We would be remiss to not recognize Larry Bowen, who has been our prepress person for the last eleven editions. His photoshop expertise and attention to detail (and catching our errors) has made the calendars better.
We have a supply of calendars for all the years except the first (1988). Contact us if you need one or more years.
